Make A Wish Card - DIY Tutorial

Make a Wish

I received the new stamp releases from JustRite Papercrafts and I'm having a ball stamping to my little heart's delight.

I combined some stamping with embossing.

My vision for this card:
Create a card with a lot of whitespace.  The whitespace will have some texture from an embossing folder.  Add some clean simple stamped sentiments.

My vision seems easy enough and yet my first attempt failed because I did not think through the process.  I forged ahead and got caught up in the fun creativity (which is a good problem to have I guess).

And just what was my failure?
I was having fun embossing with Spellbinders Flourish Stitch Em-bossing Fold'ers Quilt It and liked the way it turned out.  Then I decided to add the perfect finishing touch to the card - a stamped sentiment using JustRite -Happy Birthday Sentiment One -clear stamp.

Womp Womp....nope - cannot stamp after embossing .  While obvious to most, I simply didn't realize the stamping would not be crisp when added over the raised embossing.  Like I said earlier, I got caught up in the fun creativity.

I thought I'd share a quick tip/tutorial because of my embossed and stamped combo card failure.  I'm trying to save you some misery, time and products as we learn from my mistakes.  Though I am sure most of you are waaaaayyyyy ahead of me and would not make this mistake.

First Things First
This card has a few steps to it.  First I created my focal point - the stamped flower image.  I thought this resembled dandelions gone to seed.  I used to love to blow then in the yard to make a wish.

I used JustRite Watercolor Paper Layering Swatches for my image. This product comes in perfect card size: 4"x 5.25"  and contains 100 sheets of watercolor paper perfect for layering.

After I stamped the image, I set it with Clear Embossing Powder (super fine).  Next I colored my stamp using Watercolor Brushes  and some Tim Holzt Distress Inks. a with a  Seedless Preserves and Peacock Feathers.

Here is my tip for Embossing and Stamping:

Step 1. After your artistic image has been created,  draw a circle in pencil around the stamped image.  This helps you determine where your stamped sentiment will be placed.

Step 2.  The clear stamps are flexible and I thought the sentiment would look great mirroring the curve of the circle so that's how I placed the stamp on my clear stamp block.

Step 3.  After the sentiment is stamped, you can then emboss.  I used Spellbinders Flourish Stitch Em-bossing Fold'ers Quilt It.

Here is one last image of the ( successfully) completed card.

Enchanting Halloween Shaker Card Made With LOVE Plus Handy TIP

For the Love of Halloween!

Here's an enchanting card I made with love.
Clearly many folks love all things Halloween.
It's wild popularity has some websites suggesting it to be the second biggest holiday next to Christmas.

Count me as one of those folks who adores the decorations and festivities of this quirky, fun holiday.
Spellbinders has given us Halloween fanatics some hauntingly wonderful products to celebrate the season.

I created a shaker card to send to a family member enchanted by Halloween.  I thought the Spellbinders - Nothing But Love Stamp  by Tammy Tutterow would be a cute twist to use on the background of my card.  After all, it's all about the LOVE of all things Halloween.

Scroll down the blog post and I'll share my handy recycle tip and money saving for shaker cards.

These are the Spellbinders products I used:

Here is a better image to show the dimension of this card.
And aren't those bats simply darling?

Handy Shaker Card Tip
Don't have any acrylic to make a shaker card?  This is what I do....I eat the rest of the baked goods I bought for the family - this one happens to be the beloved cheese danish.  Just wash and dry and instantly I have acrylic that's proudly been recycled.

Better yet, have a friend over and share the goodies.  Eat, laugh and make a day crafting together creating Spellbinders shaker cards.

Look at the top of the container....all that lovely usable acrylic begging to become a shaker card.

The possibilities are endless - baked goods, fresh fruit and veggies, packaging from your crafts and crafting the house high and low, then eat up!
.....but  PLEASE be mindful of products with allergens like peanuts if you are giving cards to others.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a bewitching Halloween season.

It's Snowman Time - Cute Christmas Card

Snowman season is upon us so I thought I would create snowman cuteness.
I'm here to share a card I made by combining two Maja Design holiday collections: Maja Design - A Gift For You and Maja Design - Vintage Winter .

I love that the collections can often be used together.  That's part of the magic of Maja Design.  We all know that paper and papercrafting products aren't cheap, so make the most of your supplies!

That's the added value of Maja Design collections.   While some of the papers in the Holiday/Christmas collections certainly have images that are "themed " for the holidays, the B sides of the papers offer prints that can be used for any occasion.

The papers I used are shown in the image above and are as follows:

My darling snowman die is from Memory Box die - Snowman Heart Collage .  I think it's adorable.   Accented with some Flowers,  pine branches and he's all set for the Holidays.

Autumn Thankful Card

Feeling Thankful

I'm feeling thankful.  While it may feel like life is spinning out of control, the world has gone crazy and work/family/life is stressful,  remind yourself of the many reasons to be thankful.  Thankful for supportive family, friends and co-workers.  Thankful for health and a warm home.  Thankful that everyday is a new day to start over.

And let's not forget to be thankful for the simple things in life that bring us joy...for a papercrafting hobby that brings peace, happiness, a way to relieve the stresses of the day through beautiful papers and crafting supplies.

I've got Maja Design and Spellbinders
to thank for this.  Or more specifically Spellbinders Die D-Lites.

I used Maja Design - Walking in the Forest paper collection and topped with leaves and the perfect sentiment from Spellbinders Die D-Lites - Fall Leaves Holiday 2017 to make this card pop to life.

I made a card for a person who has helped me in my job for 10 years.  She is a treasured client of mine and is moving to a new position.  I value her assistance and level-headedness in the times when work seems like it can gobble me up.

My gorgeous paper choices perfect for the season are from Maja Design - Walking in the Forest paper collection. Featured below are the papers I used to create my card:
Maple ( both A and B side)
Mountain Ash (B side)

I grabbed another great product perfect for the season -

Here are a few more closeups of the papers and embellishments on my card.

I am thankful for your visit and support.  May your Autumn season be full of reason to be thankful.

Halloween Home Decor Pumpkin with Julie Nutting

DIY Home Decor for Halloween - Starring Julie Nutting Doll Stamps by Prima

Last year, I whipped up a sweet Halloween decoration using a foam pumpkin.  I adored the creation and decided others would have fun making it as well.

Here is a link to the step by step DIY instructions for this pumpkin decor piece: here

I found the pumpkins I needed and now it's my next class being taught at Buffalo Stamps & Stuff in Buffalo, NY on Oct 21st.
Don't miss out.

Obviously the stars of the pumpkin patch are Julie Nutting's
Cat Girl Stamp with her trusty side-kick, cat friend.

But I also have some supporting characters that make this piece spooky as well.  The bats!
The bats are from Spellbinders Dies - any one of the following work nicely:

Spellbinders Card Challenge - Card Kit of the Month

Card Making Challenge With A Twist
I'm one of the very grateful Spellbloggers for Spellbinders.   In celebration of World Card Making Day, Oct 7th, Spellbinders challenged me make cards using one of their card kits.   Well, I gladly accept this challenge and decided to " up the ante".  Plus I'm up on the Spellbinders blog today as well!!!

I used one of the kits' from Spellbinders Card Kit of the Month Club to play along in the festivities.  It's not often cardmakers have their own special day, so I made the most of it and really challenged myself.
The kit I chose was the Mint, Teak, Pink & Yellow Happy Themed 2016 Card Kit - KOM-DEC16.  Each Card Kit comes with ten card/envelope sets and everything you need to start creating.   My personal goal was to make all ten cards to share and show how abundant the supplies and embellishments are in each box.

The cards were made using ONLY the supplies that came in the kit.  Nothing extra added.  I set out to use as many of the supplies as possible and create all 10 cards with unique designs.

Contents of the Kit:
10 Cards & 10 Envelopes
10 Sheets of 8.5 x 11€ Paper/Cardstock and 1 sheet of Gold Foil Paper
Set of 8 dies
5 Colors of Ribbon/Twine
Pearls, Buttons, Flowers, Brads & Tags
Chipboard embellishments
Wooden sentiments
Sticker sentiments
Sheet of adhesive & foam dots

I do have a few tips to help add interest to the cards.  Scroll on down and I'll share some of my secrets.
Card 1.  The kit comes with foam dots.  I used some of the dots on random leaves in my wreath to give the leaves some dimension and interest instead of being totally flat.
Card 2.  I used the dies as layered chevrons, with foam dots providing additional dimension between the layers.
Card 3. The kit comes with some cool gold sticker sentiments.  The word "LOVE" below came from that sticker sentiment set.  Then I used the remaining negative space on the sticker once the letters for the word "LOVE"  were gone.   I simply cut around the leftover sticker.   Scroll down to get a better feel for what I mean.

Card 4.   This card was inspired from card 3 above.   I used the word "LOVE" from a gold sticker set that came in the kit, on card 3 above.  Then the remaining negative space on the sticker set was very cool and still said "LOVE" in outlines.

Card 5. I used the adorable, versatile butterfly die from the kit as the main focus.
Card 6. Gosh, I am in love with that leafy branch die in the kit.  It's perfect for the gold foil paper that also comes in the kit.
Card 7.  I wanted to create a masculine inspired card from Mint, Teak, Pink & Yellow Happy Themed 2016 Card Kit
Card 8. Butterfly card using both the die and the negative leftover ( the ;piece of paper remaining after the die has been cut) as a border.

I also used the leafy branch die in this card and the negative leftover in Cards 9 and 10 as borders.

Card 9.  I used the negative leftover from the leafy branch die from Card 8.  The negative space makes such a lovely border.
Card 10.

Autumn Goodness Cards

Let's Celebrate with Spellbinders and a DIY Class

I love the colors and symbols of autumn.  Leaves, reds, oranges and warm browns.  Apple picking and cider drinking.  I am certainly most thankful for all the blessings around me.
Spellbinders dies helped me celebrate the season and enabled me to send joy to someone special.

(I am also teaching a class with these two cards.  If you scroll down this page, I'll share the class information)

This is my first card.  The color of the card actually reminds me of cinnamon - a great scent for the season.

I've got a few cool dies I used on this card.
Here is a close up of the card.
I did add a few embellishments for some drama; the sequins and tiny floral berries complete my floral cluster.

The gorgeous border work is from Spellbinders ...Spellbinders Shapabilities - Swirled Strip Etched Die .  Very cool - I'm in love.

Here is my second autumn card.  Happy Fall indeed!

My die choices for this card:

I used the leaves from the Spellbinders Acorn die because it was a great fit and addition to the apple basket.

And even better????  You can take my class Oct 21st at Buffalo Stamp and Stuff.
