Peaceful Beach Chair by the Sea - Flying Unicorn Off The Page

http://www.flyingunicornstore.com

Included in each August's Your Passion Your Art. Main Kit, is always a fun and unique "off the Page " item. We have the perfect "Off the Page" piece to help celebrate summer of 2015.  This month's project is a sweet and peaceful  wooden Adirondack chair in mini form of course.   While I'd fiercely taken on an OTP as large as a real Adirondack lounge chair, I am quite thankful Alda keeps it simple and on the small side.

I must elaborate a little when I use the word "peaceful" to describe the Adirondack chair OTP. I should have said "potentially peaceful". It's full of sweet peaceful dreams in my mind, but when I showed my husband my finished project, he added his own flair and special touch.   He added a nightmare to my beach scene.  Ugh men - or at least my man!

My beach sign says, "Life is Better on the Beach".  Life is definitely better on the beach unless you have a shark trying to rip your leg off as you read a book.

Sheesh - Husband is now completely banned from my craft space.
Word  to my husband.....stick to guitar playing Sweetheart.  Back away from my craft room.

So BACK to my happy version, OK?
How did I make this?

Making the Chair:
1.  First I worked on the chair.  I painted the dreamy chair white

2.  Added some Prima Chalkboard Paints with a dry brush.

3.  Rubbed the chair with Tim Holtz Distress ink in Weathered Wood.  Not a lot of ink but enough to give some definition.

4.  I covered Prima's little Tickets and Tags booklet with paper and gave it a stamp from Prima's Seashore collection.  Stamped the inside pages with mini text  and made it into a book.

5.  Punched out a seahorse from Joy Craft dies.  I gussied it up with inks, microbeads and Ranger Glossy Accents.

Making the Canvas Beach:
1.  I used an upside down 8x8 canvas for my beach and sea.

2. Painted Prima chalkboard paint in Sand as the sand.

3. Painted on Prima chalkboard  paint on multiple blues....in an ombre type look going from darker blue to lighter as a seashore varies in color.

4.  After paint dried, I added very thick coats of Prima 3D matte gel as waves.  I applied the gel with a palette knife and left dry over night.

5.  Added micro beads and mica to my canvas beach and sea using Prima Clear Matte Gel  medium.  It adheres the beads and mica nicely.

6.  Stapled blue netting to my canvas.  The sandy color netting in the background is only for the photo and not attached to the piece.

7.  Glued small pieces of cheesecloth to give a wispy look.

8.  Stapled/glued cording all the way around the canvas.

9.  Took my used sponge brush and ripped off the sponge.  Glued a sign to it "Life is Better on the Beach".  Inked the wood handle of the sponge brush with Tim Holtz Distress ink in weathered wood.  Stuck it behind the cording and added gobs of glue to keep in place.  Beacons 3 in 1 glue.

so do not delay in getting yours!

    1. yes it does. The chair is a stand alone wooden chair. It comes in the MAIN kit. I used an 8x8 canvas as the base and built from there. Most of all thanks for the comment. Oh yeah.....shark is NOT included. BUY my hubby might be if he keeps this shenanigans up.
