Creating a Distressed Cardboard Embellishment

This is a layout featuring the Jazz great, Chubby Jackson.  He was artistic, expressive and very innovative in his time.   I didn't quite have an embellishment that I thought would suit a man in the  Jazz Hall of Fame so I created one for Mr. Jackson.  (This is a photo I found in the United States Library of Congress Flickr Pilot Project)

This is my mini-tutorial on how to create a distressed cardboard embellishment.

Starts with ripping a strip of cardboard.

Ink with a little Tim Holtz Black Soot and Rusty Hinge.

Add a blast of robust color with the wonderful Dylusions in Pure Sunshine.

Re-emphasize the Black Soot and the Rusty Hinge with another "once over" as the Dylusions mist may have watered down the first application of the Tim Holtz Distressed inks.

Add a coat of Distress Crackle Paint - Clear Rock Candy, Glossy Accents, or Crackle Accents.  These mediums really enhance the colors of the inks and makes your cardboard embellishment rich and bold.

While the clear coating is still wet, add some toppings like micro beads, mica chips, embossing powders or glitter.  I chose to add Stampendous Micas and black Micro beads.

Finish with some interesting fibers, yarn, string, jute, lace.

Thanks for stopping by to look.  Go try this out.  Have fun and be bold.
